Distributed Fileserver
Centralized installations offer the advantage of a single source of control, all data, structures and files are held centrally as is the administration and ‘know how’ for managing and developing the solution. But sometimes the complete centralization of all data is not practicable because of the huge establishment of 3D CAD systems in engineering. While the metadata (master items, documents, bills of material) can be transferred quickly a download of 3D model data is no longer practicable. Download time grows exponential and correspondingly dedicated lines mean the costs escalate.
The distributed fileserver concept of keytech PLM creates a practicable and high-performance solution by file replication. Each site stores its files on its own fileserver. A synchronization of the new and changed files occurs automatically. The rules for this can be defined for flexibility. So a manufacturing site can only be supplied with PDF or TIF files, while "Concurrent" working engineering teams need high performance and an immediate view of all data and models. Your replication strategy needs to take into consideration the costs and required performance.
keytech offers the tools for this.
- Access to current data
- Optimal performance at file access by local file server
- Lower network traffic
- Rule based replication of files
- System maintenance and backup can still be achieved centrally.
